50 planned story missions – progress through the many environments of the inner planets of our solar system!
Procedurally generated side missions – randomized enemy waves, hazards, and mission objectives guarantee your experience will never be the same.
Factional warfare – Pick a side and fly missions on their behalf to gain access to special ships and equipment.
Engage a roster of 10 enemy mercenaries with a nemesis style adversary system.
At launch, Stellar Mercenaries will contain 50 hand-crafted “progression missions”, but the fun doesn’t end there! You’ll be able to shoot your way through an endless amount of procedurally generated side content, acceptable from your local hive of scum and villainy: the space bar! Side missions have randomized locations (many of which you will not encounter during your main-mission progression), extra hazards such as additional mercenary encounters, meteor storms, minefields, and much more, random mission objectives that shake up your usual shoot-’em-up experience, and rewards to fit the mission difficulty.
Once accepted, you can find the side missions on the Solar System navigation map. Side missions can only be attempted once, although you can retry a mission as many times as you’d like once you’re in the mission.
Endless missions are additional levels that provide rewards for surviving increasingly difficult waves of enemies. As the name suggests, the waves keep coming forever! The rewards increase with the wave count and once you’ve taken critical damage, you’ll automatically initiate an emergency warp out and receive your loot. Each world has several endless missions (each with different loot tables) to try your hand at.
Finally, new ship types can be unlocked through hand-crafted side missions that appear once you’ve reached a certain progress point on a world. The ships you gain access to also depend on the factions you choose to side with during the progression missions.
